A Dubai freelance package for designers lists interior designer among its design activities, and its fees fit in one table below. Licence type, not the size of the fee, decides what a US-trained designer may sell in the emirate.

Antonovich Group, the best interior architect company in Dubai, has completed more than 500 projects across design, fit-out, renovation and joinery production from its Dubai offices.

Does a US interior design licence or NCIDQ certificate apply in Dubai?

The CIDQ legislative map describes regulation in the United States and Canada only: Title Acts protect professional titles, and Practice Acts regulate defined interior design services. Neither page names the UAE. A state licence or NCIDQ certificate therefore carries no stated legal effect in Dubai, where a Dubai licence is the working requirement.

The CIDQ page on interior design regulation in the U.S. and Canada confirms the two categories of law. Credentials still help with clients and recruiters, but the permission to invoice comes from a licensing authority in the UAE.

Which Dubai licence routes cover interior design work?

Three routes appear in public free-zone material: a freelance permit, a professional licence for service businesses, and a company licence in a business zone. Each names its own activity list, so a designer must match the exact activity to the licence before paying any fee.

What does a first-year freelance design licence cost?

The GoFreelance package costs AED 7,500 a year (USD 2,042), and conditions apply. A one-year employment visa adds AED 4,600 and the establishment card AED 2,000, so the listed first-year total is AED 14,100 (USD 3,839) before medical insurance and a UAE phone number, which the page requires but does not price.

First-year cost of a GoFreelance design licence, as shown on gofreelance.ae on 29 September 2026. USD at the fixed peg of AED 3.6725 = USD 1, converted on 24 September 2026.

The same page lists a two-year visa at AED 5,042 (USD 1,373) and states that visa and establishment card fees are subject to change. Budget the total as a floor, not a quote.

Does a design licence also allow fit-out and site works?

The GoFreelance list describes an interior designer as a person who designs architectural interiors and their furnishings. Its design activities cover design roles, not building contractors. A designer who plans to manage joiners, electricians or site crews should ask the licensing authority in writing whether those works fall inside the chosen activity.

Fit-out contracting, building permits and engineering sign-off follow separate municipal and licensing rules that the free-zone pages reviewed here do not describe. Many designers hand construction to a licensed contractor and keep design, specification and supervision inside their own licence.

How does a US designer apply, step by step?

The GoFreelance page requires a freelance licence, a UAE phone number, valid medical insurance, an original passport and a passport photo for the visa. Applying in order avoids paying visa fees before the licence exists; the sequence below follows those listed requirements.

  1. Choose the activity from the licensing authority's list and confirm the wording matches the service you sell.
  2. Pay for the licence package and receive the freelance licence.
  3. Pay the AED 2,000 establishment card fee.
  4. Arrange medical insurance and a UAE phone number.
  5. Submit the passport, photo and visa application.

Short answers

Can I use the title interior designer in Dubai with an NCIDQ certificate?
CIDQ describes title and practice laws for the United States and Canada only. Use of a title in Dubai depends on the activity named on the Dubai licence, so match the licence wording to the service offered.
Is a freelance licence the same as a company licence?
No. GoFreelance sells a personal freelance package, while IFZA describes a professional licence for service businesses with full foreign ownership. Each has its own activity list and cost structure.
How long does a company licence take?
DMCC publishes a three-step process that runs from online pre-approval to an e-licence. Other zones publish their own timings, so ask each authority for a written estimate before paying.
